Stress and Self-Esteem Treatment

Often, stress and self-esteem seem to go hand-in-hand for women. We feel like we need to do it all, do it all well, do it to other people’s liking, try harder, manage this, finish that, and the list goes on and on. What if you could just breathe…just take time to clear your head and body from the stress, overwhelming thoughts, extreme expectations, and self-defeating words that you think about yourself and get help to examine what is really driving you to exhaustion?

Is it childhood messages that you accidentally absorbed as indicators of your value or lack there of? Is it the inability to say “no.” Is it the need to keep peace at all costs or to be everyone’s “savior?” Whatever “it” is for you, together we can identify the thoughts and actions that are causing you distress and help you to gain tools for better regulating your emotions, stress-load, self-talk, and relationship interactions.

Maybe your stress comes out in ways that end up tearing your self-esteem down, such as feeling guilty after yelling at your spouse when you don’t feel heard, or screaming at the kids when you have too much on your plate. Maybe, you find yourself shutting-down and don’t speak at all in situations that cause you stress, or you neglect to stand up for yourself and let your voice be heard. Maybe you make snarky remarks and go passive-aggressive when you feel misunderstood or hurt because you don’t have the self-confidence to speak your truth and stand behind it without being defensive. We can help you to identify your inner feelings and needs and to gain self-control and the tools for healthy self-esteem.

Through the use of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), we’ll help you to understand the underlying thoughts, feelings, and actions that might be getting in the way of the type of life you’d rather live. You are not alone. We hear from many women in the practice about the stresses they experience related to responsibilities from relationship with their husbands, kids, work, other’s expectations, or their feelings of guilt, anger, and resentment.
